The Morrigan 7

craig yeung
Here is the final penciled version. In the computer I cleaned up the smudge marks and went over with color dodge to clean up some of the highlighting. I also put an overlay of runes (from a previous pic cause I didn't want to redo them). I kept the layer separate for the colorist so she can do some special effects for the final piece. Next: It's off to the colorist to be colored!

The Morrigan 6

Ok, almost there. I cleaned up the birds here and bumped up some details that can get lost through smudging or whatnot during the process, going in with a darker pencil in some areas to pull some details back out. This is probably the last thing I do on the original paper and then it's off to scanning and digital tweaks.

The Morrigan 5

Part 5. In this stage I worked out the birds in the background and the moon. Almost done!

The Morrigan 4

I suck at updating,(there are so many sites to keep up with) but here is a continuation of the Morrigan process. In this stage, I've smoothed out a bunch of the shadows and fine tuned a lot of the details, especially in the hair and textures in the bracers and skirt. I also finished off the left hand.

The Morrigan 3

Fanexpo was a blast! Thanks to all that came out!

Continuation of the Morrigan process. In this shot, you can see me work on the folds of the hood and the details of the hair and accessories like the bracers and rings. It's easy to become lazy and rough in the details so always catch yourself if you feel like skipping over a minor detail. Also added some dimension to the cloak as well to realize some forms and shapes.

The Morrigan 2

haha, been so long since I posted here. So hard to keep up with all the social media sites. I'll be at Fanexpo this year, table P50B. Anywho I guess I should contiue with the morrigan process. In this scan, you can see the ravens have been more fully realized as well as the face. You will also notice compared to the initial rough, I have eliminated the foreground raven that was to occupy the bottom left. I thought in this instance the bird was cutting into the picture and detracting from the main focus of Morrigan.

The Morrigan

It's been a while since I did a process. So I think The Morrigan piece I recently did for the sketchcard set Classic Mythology would be a nice one to show. (in case you would like one of the promo cards, you can goto this site for more info: http://pernastudios.deviantart.com/journal/Classic-Mythology-Promos-P4-amp-P5-Available-272815303)

Here you can see me feeling out the elements, the feathers, the pose and the ravens. Although you will see in this initial drawing, I had a third raven in the foreground. I thought that the raven took away from the overall image so I decided to nix it. In it's place, I will eventually add a cape. The raven made the image a bit claustrophobic. I think I should have left more room to the sides as well. In my head I was thinking .2 inches border for the final card, but forgot to scale it up since this was done on a 11x 17 page. oops. We fudged some stuff in the end to make it work hehe.
